Sam Miller

Sam Miller
11th Year Coaching · Bowie HS since 1998

Sam Miller is in his 11th year as head coach of both the boys and girls golf teams at James Bowie High School. A long-time Bowie educator who joined the school in 1998, Coach Miller previously coached football, baseball, and soccer before finding his home on the fairway. He teaches Algebra 2 and holds a degree from the University of Texas. Married with three children, Sam brings the same patience and precision to the classroom that he demands on the course.

19th Year at Bowie · 6th Year with Golf

Karl Lauer is in his 19th year at James Bowie High School and his 6th year working with the golf teams. He also coaches softball, a role he has held since 2012. Coach Lauer teaches U.S. History, both on-level and AP, and graduated from Concordia University. Married with two daughters, Karl is an avid collector of baseball cards and vinyl records, and brings the same meticulous eye for detail to the greens that he applies to his other passions.

Clint Baty
Former Lake Travis HS Basketball Staff · 394–170 Career Record

Clint Baty brings over two decades of elite coaching and teaching experience from Texas public schools. He was on the Lake Travis High School basketball staff for 15 seasons, compiling a 394–170 record and winning eight district championships across four regional tournament appearances. He was assistant coach during the program's first-ever state tournament appearance. A graduate of Texas State University with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science, Clint played collegiate baseball under Hall of Fame coach Wayne Graham at San Jacinto Junior College and spent 25 years dedicated to developing student-athletes in the classroom and on the field.

Jimmy Clayton
Former Head Men's Golf Coach, University of Texas

A lifelong teacher, mentor, and ambassador for the game of golf. Coach Clayton graduated from the University of North Texas where he competed on the Mean Green golf team. He went on to serve as Head Men's Golf Coach at the University of Texas, bringing decades of elite collegiate coaching experience to our student-athletes.

Dana Johnson
2000 Australian Junior Champion · Futures Tour

Originally from Perth, Australia, Dana was the 2000 Australian Junior Champion and earned a four-year scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport. She turned professional in 2004 and competed on the Futures Tour and Ladies European Tour before transitioning to a club professional role. She now resides in Southwest Austin and brings elite international competitive experience to our girls program.

Ashley Coy

Ashley Coy is a lifelong golfer who began playing at age 12 and competed for Bastrop High School. She earned a golf scholarship to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where she graduated in 2015, then completed a Master's degree in Sports Management in 2017. She currently serves as Events Coordinator at the Texas Veterans Commission and brings both competitive experience and organizational expertise to the girls program.

Bobby O'Dell is a licensed physical therapist and Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified professional, the golf industry's leading body-swing certification. He founded 512 Physical Therapy & Golf Performance Center and leads Bowie's bi-weekly Golf Strength & Performance Series, helping our student-athletes develop the physical foundation to drive distance, prevent injury, and compete at their peak.
